-As Prominent Orlu Leaders Insist On Power Shift
Sequel to the continued agitation for power to be rotated among the three senatorial zones of the state, Orlu leaders and stakeholders have emphatically said that they will not under any circumstance support Governor Hope Uzodinma’s re-election bid.
Some of the leaders who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity for being intimidated said, “it will be irrational and inconsiderate for any person to contemplate supporting Governor Uzodinma’s re-election after Rochas Okorocha had spent eight years after former Governor Udenwa’s eight years, in addition to Hope Uzodinma’s 4-year tenure”.
The source hinted that, in as much as Uzodinma has the right to seek re-election, it is also the right of Orlu people to decide whether or not to support him.
Continuing, he said, “we, as leaders are discussing the issue dispassionately and will, in due course make our stand known to the public for the sake of posterity”.
Asked if Orlu leaders will support a candidate from Owerri, the source said, “we have not decided who to support. But one thing we know is that, it will be completely out of place for any person from Orlu zone to aspire to be Governor. For now, it is the turn of either an Owerri or Okigwe man to be the Governor of Imo State.
“We will not only support the person but will also reach out to prominent stakeholders from the area with a view to harmonizing issues”.
He also said that, “in as much as their resolve not to vote for Uzodinma has nothing to do with non performance, the fact still remains that the Uzodinma administration failed woefully in the area of security of lives and property, which is the cardinal responsibility of any government that is worth it’s onion.
“However, it appears that the Governor is playing politics with the prevailing insecurity in the state but that will be to his detriment and that of his administration”.
