– Explain How They Were Abducted, Tortured By Men Of Tiger Base
Some leaders and stakeholders of Eziama autonomous community, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State have lamented over what they described as their ordeal in the hands of Chief Charles Amadi (CHAVON), apex leader of the All Progressive Congress in Imo State who they said, is terrorizing, harassing and intimidating indigenes of the community in a desperate bid to ensure that his brother succeeds their late traditional ruler, contrary to the constitution, customary and traditional norms of the community.
Some of them who narrated their experience in the hands of operatives of the Tiger Base Unit of the Imo State Police Command, who Chavon allegedly uses to unleash havoc on the community, disclosed that ‘’a cabinet Chief(namewitheld) who refused to be compromised was abducted recently alongside his wife. While his wife was released on bail same day after reportedly paying the sum of one hundred and ten thousand (#110,000), her husband was released on Thursday after spending almost one week in detention’’.
According to them, ‘’when the former traditional ruler of Eziama, passed on, his son approached the cabinet Chief (name with held) to assist the family in arranging for his burial, which he did by virtue of his position as cabinet Chief and closeness to the deceased’’.
‘’Having heard that the late traditional ruler’s son approached the cabinet Chief for support and assistance, Chief Charles Amadi went to the cabinet Chief’s house and told him to desist from supporting the late Monarch’s son because he (CHAVON) has already penciled down someone who will succeed the late monarch.
He brought out some money and gave the cabinet Chief but the latter refused to accept the money which he perceived to be a Greek gift. Chavon allegedly also gave the Chief’s wife some money which she also refused to collect’’.
‘’The Chief and his wife’s refusal to collect the money from Chavon and their refusal to withdraw their support for the late traditional ruler’s son who the community sees as the rightful successor of the late monarch did not go down well with Chavon who allegedly decided to use his contact with those in the corridors of power and security agencies to deal with them’’.
Continuing, they said, ‘’on the day of the late Eze’s memorial service, the community installed his son as his successor, to the chargin of Chavon who had already facilitated the return of his brother from Sweden with the aim of making him the late Eze’s successor’’.
‘’Thereafter, Chavon, whose son Akarachi is the current Member, representing Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives started threatening all of us who he believes supported the emergence of the late Monarch’s son as his successor’’.
‘’Ever since the late Eze’s son was installed as his father’s successor, Eziama community has been turned upside down by Chief Charles Amadi and his group who failed in their attempt to impose their stooge on the community. Prominent sons of the community have on several occasions been attacked, molested and injured unnecessarily by thugs allegedly sponsored by Chavon and his group.
At about 3am on on that, armed to the teeth gunmen who were later identified as men of the Tiger Base Unit of the Imo State Police Command stormed the home of the cabinet Chief who had refused to be bought over, jumped the fence, smashed the doors and forcefully gained entrance. They whisked the man and his wife away and kept them incommucado.
They also arrested Prince Aggrey Oparaugo, 90 year old Eugene Ndu and his son, who were tortured, beaten and manhandled as if they are common criminals’’.
‘’Prior to this, they had brought hoodlums to disrupt a meeting convened by stakeholders on April, 4, 2023, to address some issues that border on poor leadership and mismanagement of funds. At the said meeting gun totting fierce looking young men stormed the venue, beat up those they perceived as opposition and whisked some away.
They also accused the Ikeduru Divisional Police and the Tiger Base Unit of compromise. Hence they petitioned zone 9 Umuahia who came and effected some arrests.
