Candidates siting for the National Business And Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), in the State have been charged to be very serious with their studies as to come out with excellent results.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof Johncliff C. Nwadike gave the charge while monitoring the progress of NABTEB Examination at Government Technical College, Owerri.
Prof Nwadike told the students of the College to be grateful for attending technical school because on graduation they would become employers of labour instead of walking around the streets looking for job.
He wished them success in English Language and all other subjects.
He equally called on parents to send their wards to technical school where they can learn one trade or the other that will equip them permanently for life.
The Commissioner used the occasion to urge the Principal to revive and reinvigorate the Old Boys Association so that they can be partners in progress with government and Parents Teachers Association (PTA) towards the maintenance and growth of the school.
Escorting the Commissioner and his team round the examination halls, the Vice Principal of Government Technical College, Owerri, Dr Mrs Blessing Njoku said 160 students of the school sitting for the NABTEB Examinations were of good conduct and the examinations which started in June 26 have been going on smoothly.
In a similar development, the Commissioner also visited OSU Technical College, Okohia in Isiala Mbano LGA to monitor the on going NABTEB Examinations.
Prof Nwadike was glad to see that the Mathematics Examination being taken as at the time of the visit was conducted in strict compliance with stipulated guidelines.
He commended the supervisory team and candidates for good work, wishing them excellence all through.
However, he was displeased to be informed of the paucity of teachers and that some of the Departments in the school were not functioning, no toilet facilities while some classroom blocks were dilapidated.
The Education Boss charged the school Principal and her workforce to reinvigorate the school to its former glory by reaching out to the Old Boys of the school and Philanthropists in the community to partner with government in completing abandoned structures and tackle other needs of the school.
He opined that,“schools are better when the Head is proactive and the host community supportive. Quickly apply for the posting of more teachers and make every effort to upgrade the school.”
The Principal of the school, Mrs. Eucharia Ogoke said the Examinations have been going on smoothly and thanked the Commissioner for his concern and advise on how to move the school forward.
The Director of Universal Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. P N. Nlebedum and some other Staff of the Ministry were in the monitoring team.
