As the tempo for the Imo State government election scheduled to hold on November, 11, heightens, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, has chosen Mrs Ekemaro, wife of Umunnoha, Mbaitoli Local Government Area born lawyer and politician as his running mate.
It was gathered that Governor Uzodinma will officially present the woman in no distant time.
A Government House source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, ‘’the Governor’s decision was influenced by the fact that Mbaitoli has high voting strength, is close to Ikeduru where the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu hails from.
Meanwhile, information available to our news desk indicate that Okigwe zone which had earlier shown interest in the deputy governorship slot on the ground that Owerri zone had occupied the position severally, is said to have expressed disappointment at the development.
A stakeholder from Obowo told our correspondent that ‘’Governor Uzodinma’s choice of his running mate from Owerri zone is an affront on the people of Okigwe who feel deprived and neglected.
The stakeholder who is also a top politician further stated that they are studying the development to know their next line of action, ahead of November, 11.
‘’We are sad and disappointed that despite the several meetings and consultations with the Governor who, on several occasions assured us that Okigwe will be considered for the slot, he still went ahead to pick his running mate from Owerri zone that has occupied it right from the time of Ikedi Ohakim and Rochas Okorocha.
It would also be recalled that Imo Women under the aegies of a group founded by Chief Mrs Betty Akeredolu Anyanwu, wife of the former Governor of Ondo State had, at some of the meetings they held in Owerri requested that women be given opportunity to occupy top political offices especially that of Governor and deputy Governor of states among others
