The Accountant General of Imo State, Linus Okafor was among those honoured by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria ICAN for professional competence and outstanding services and contributions to the Accounting profession in the country and Imo State in particular.
Okafor, a former Bursar of the Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, also delivered a paper at the event which held at Rockview Hotel, along Okigwe Road by Wethral junction on Friday, May, 19, 2023.
Okafor, commended the State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma for his zero-tolerance for financial profligacy, corruption and for his commitment to transparency and accountability which he said, have become the hall mark of his administration.
‘’These traits have won the governor several awards. Today, ‘’ ICAN and Owerri District Society is rejoicing/celebrating His Excellency the Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma on the award on fiscal transparency bestowed on him, by the stakeholders of States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability Project (SFTAS) of the World. ICAN is celebrating this award because it is based on one of the virtues ICAN believes in.
‘’The institute is also celebrating the award because it came from a reputable organization/entity-the World Bank. Again we are celebrating the award because the achievements that led to the award are verifiable and are real. These are the reasons ICAN decided to celebrate His Excellency the governor of Imo State on the award’’.
Presenting the award to the Imo AG, the National President of ICAN described him as a dutiful person and an asset to the profession. He thanked the Governor for finding Mr Okafor fit and proper to serve as the Accountant-General of the state expressing the confident that Mr Okafor will continue to excel in his duties and make the profession proud’’.
