The Peoples Democratic Party ticket for Orlu, Orsu and Oru East federal constituency said to have been secured by Mr Kingsley Onyegbula in questionable circumstances is presently shaky as Chief Aloy Igwe who won the election of has approached a Federal High Court in Owerri to reclaim the ticket which he claims to have won.
Recall that after Chief Igwe was declared winner in a keenly contested election, adjudged to be very transparent, the PDP national body singled out the Orlu/Orsu and Oru-East House of Representatives seat for cancellation leaving the other positions that were held same day and conducted a fresh election on June 5th, 2022.
As earlier reported, the trio of Alloy Igwe, Engr Elochuchukwu Okeke and Edwin shunned the re-election.
The matter which came up on Friday last week, was adjourned to July 28,
When the matter came up last Friday, Counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party Ndukwe Nnawuchi (SAN) and counsel to Chief Aloy Igwe ,Taiwo Hassan,SAN, said the July 28, 2022 date is convenient for both of them, while the presiding Judge, said she would give the matter accelerated hearing in view of how crucial it is.
A PDP chieftain who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity said the matter will expose the level of rot and irregularities that took place at the PDP primaries which he described as a farce.
He said, “what is the rationale behind cancelling the election of Chief Aloy Igwe who clearly won the election for Orlu, Orsu, Oru East federal constituency seat on the grounds that some statutory delegates voted for him during the exercise, contrary to laid down rules and constitutional provisions.
It is the height of injustice to cancel Aloy Igwe’s election as the PDP candidate for Orlu, Orsu and Oru East federal constituency and accept that of Jones Onyereiri as senatorial candidate for Orlu zone and Pascal Okolie as the candidate for Orlu state assembly because the same statutory delegates who voted for Aloy Igwe also voted for them and the candidate for Orsu state constituency. If Aloy Igwe’s election is cancelled, then that of Jones Onyereiri, Pascal Okolie and that of the candidate for Orsu state constituency should also be cancelled in line with the principles of equity, justice and fairness.”
“The PDP has, by that singular act of favouritism, nepotism and injustice shot its self on both legs. What it means is that the party does not have qualified and eligible candidates for all the elective positions in Orlu zone.
Besides, Aloy Igwe’s election is adjudged in several quarters as free, fair and credible but some people at the PDP HEADQUARERS IN Abuja mortgaged their conscience, compromised and cancelled the election.”
“Unfortunately, they did not envisage that it will not only have a ripple effect but also affect the entire exercise negatively.”
When contacted, yesterday, for comments Chief Aloy Igwe expressed his readiness to pursue the matter up to the Supreme Court to ensure that his mandate is restored.
He pointed out that, “all the delegates who voted during the primary election were accreditated in the presence of all concerned. Yet nobody complained or questioned the modality until I won the election. As far as I am concerned, the argument they are making is not tenable.”
