The member representing Orlu/Orsu and Oru East Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives,Hon. Jerry Alagbaoso has officially declared his intention to contest for Orlu Senatorial seat come 2023.
Asiwaju as popularly called made this known on yesterday while interfacing with the State Working Committee (SWC) of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State at the party Secretariat located along Okigwe road.
In his opening remarks, the state Chairman of PDP,Engr. Charles Ugwu described Alagbaoso as a stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party in the state and Nigeria.
Chief Ugwu commended Alagbaoso for his tremendous support to the party in diverse ways and for mobilizing support from the grassroot to the party, stressing that the party is grateful for having discharged his responsibility well at the National Assembly and in his federal constituency.
Speaking further, Ugwu urged the Senatorial aspirant to continue to do more for the upliftment of the party especially as it regards the 2023 general election. He called on him not to be deterred at the waves of insecurity prevailing in his area to enable the party achieve victory in the coming general election.
In his response, Alagbaoso applauded the leadership style of Chief Charles Ugwu in piloting affairs of the Party since his emergence as the state chairman. He posited that electorate in the country will vote individuals rather than political parties.
According to him, “next election should be based on who will win election after primary.I am the caucus leader for Imo National assembly members.I have certificate of performance and am here to tell you what I have done not what am going to do.I am the only representative in 2012 that bought cars for party officials.I have the antecedent of recognizing party leadership. If i can do all these starting from 2012, imagine what i will do now when elected as Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District “
Alagbaoso also commended His Excellency Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the former governor of Imo state and Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu (Samdaddy), the National Secretary of PDP for their individual roles in resolving lingering party issues in the state and in some other parts of the state.
Declaring his intention to the party leadership, Alagbaoso stated, “am here to inform the party formally that i want to be the flag bearer of PDP for Orlu senate. My only advise for the party is for the party to provide a level playground for all aspirants bearing in mind those who will win in the general election”.
He also advocated that the three man adhoc delegates or list from all wards for the party primaries should go through the state party chairman to avoid litigations from party members who may feel cheated in the process
Speaking on his major achievements, the frontline aspirant for Orlu Senatorial seat maintained that he has paid his dues through effective representation. He pointed out that he has tarred roads beyond his federal constituency in order to improve the living standard of Imolites. He assured PDP leadership in the state that he will win at the general election if he gets the party ticket to vie for Orlu Senate seat.
Responding on behalf of the State Working Committee of PDP, Nze Ray Emeagha , the state secretary of the party in the state assured Alagbaoso that PDP in the state will provide a level playground for all aspirants without fear or favour.He used the opportunity to read out code of conduct for electing party delegates ahead of party primary election coming up soon.
