National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Samdaddy), the Senator representing Owerri Zone, Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Imo state chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Sir Macdonald Ebere (Ph.D), former Secretary to the Imo State Government, Hon. Barr. Uche Onyeagocha tops the list of eminent personalities honoured by women of Christ Anglican Church Owerri last Sunday during the 2022 Mothering Sunday Celebration. The quartet were honoured as ‘Distinguished Friends of the Women Ministry’ and the awards were presented to them by the Vicar, Ven. Dr. Simeon Duruji and his wife, Mrs Chibuzo Duruji as well as the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Hon. Lady Gladys Amuneke. Receiving the award, Samdaddy, who was represented by his Special Assistant (Media), Ikenna Onuoha congratulated mothers on the celebration.
He described the award as prestigious, stressing that any gift from a mother is indeed a precious gift.
The PDP scribe promised to continue to support women at all times. While Hon. Uche Onyeagocha was represented by his sister, Lady Onyinyechi Ibejiako, Hon. Lady Gladys Amuneke received the awards on behalf of Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi and Hon. Macdonald Ebere. Other award recipients include the Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Imo State Chapter, Hon. Ukwemja Samuel Udeh, and HRH Eze Dr Clinton Nze, both of who were honoured as ‘Ezinwa Christ’ as well as Mrs Theresa Ezeudemba (Nee Njemanze) who was honoured as ‘Faithful Daughter’ among others.
The colourful award giving ceremony took place during the Mothering Sunday Service, which was largely attended as the church auditorium was filled to capacity.
Preaching a sermon during the service, the wife of the Vicar and the Vice President of the Women Ministries, Mrs Chibuzo Duruji charged Christians, especially mothers, to always call on God.
Dwelling on the theme of the celebration, “JESUS THE SOLUTION- Let Your Heart Not Be Troubled” (John 14-1), she noted that God has the power to overcome all problems and regretted that some women have lost their trust in God due to trials and challenges and tribulations.
The Vicar’s wife called on mothers to train their children properly so that the society will be healthy even as she prayed God to strengthen them. The service was conducted by Dr. Mrs Chidinma Nwachukwu while the first and second lessons were read by Hon. Lady Gladys Amuneke and Eziada Tessy Oparaugo respectively.
In his message, the Vicar Ven. Dr. Simeon Duruji noted that the good works of mothers in the family, church and society at large cannot be over emphasized or dismissed with a wave of the hand, stressing that the divine roles of mothers were enormous.
He therefore charged mothers to overlook the avalanche of wrong teachings trending the in social media via ‘stomach ministry pastors, which have given riseto divorce cases, single parenthood and weakness in marriages.
In her remarks, chairman of the Planning Committee, Hon. Lady Gladys Amuneke expressed joy at the event, describing it as a special day for mothers.
She noted that God loves and blessed women in a special ways, with special roles and task to carry out and charged them to respect, honour and be submissive to their husbands.
Pointing out that it will not be easy, Hon. Amuneke advised mothers to rely totally on God to remove their domestic mountains.
She expressed satisfaction over the success of the event and attributed it to the grace of God.
The occasion also featured cutting of the Mothering Sunday cake, special renditions in honour of mothers as well as special thanksgivings by mothers. Former Chief Judge of Imo State, Hon. Justice Benjamin Njemanze (Rtd) and former Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice, Imo State, Barr. Ndukwe Nnawuchi (SAN) were also present at the service.
