Ahead of the 2023 elections, a sociopolitical group in Owerri zone known as Owerri Grassroot Development Initiative has obtained the Peoples Democratic party ( PDP) nomination and expression of interest forms for Onyeagucha.
Presenting the forms to Onyeagucha at his residence in Obinze Owerri West, the President of the group, Com. Chikere Egbuchulam said the gesture was part of their support and commitment to Onyeagucha’s Senatorial aspiration. He described Onyeagucha as man of the people who has used the greater part of his life in defending and fighting for the people.
He noted that among all the Senatorial aspirants in Owerri zone, Onyeagucha remains the best. ” He is the most credible among all the aspirants in the zone. We did a critical assessment on the track records and personalities of all the Senatorial aspirants in Owerri zone and found out that Onyeagucha is the only one that can represent the zone effectively. He is a man of integrity, honesty and sincerity, he believes in the people and knows the plight of the people. Owerri zone needs a strong voice, someone who can stand firm to speak and defend the interest of the people.
In all, Onyeagucha is the only aspirant that can make Owerri zone, Imo state and south East proud in the senate. As part of our support and contribution we decided to pull our little resources together to purchase this forms for him as encouragement to him”.
In his reaction, the secretary of the group, Chief Sam Ogbos described Onyeagucha as strong man of the people who has the capability of providing quality and responsible representation at the senate. The legal adviser of the group, Barr C. Iheka thanked Hon Onyeagucha for accepting the forms and promised him their massive support.
Recieving the forms, Hon Onyeagucha expressed his sincere gratitude to the group for their kind gesture and magnanimity especially in commiting their hard earned resources to his aspiration and prayed God to replenish their sources of income. He promised to uphold the confidence which the people reposed in him by ensuring the effective representation of the people at the senate. According to him “There will be a contract of good representation, honour and integrity between me and the people of Owerri zone. I will defend the interest of the people, I will speak for the people and ensure that the voice of Owerri zone is heard at the red chamber. I will sponsor bill for the amendment of the UBEC law to extend free education from primary one to senior secondary three to enable every Child to have access to free education”.
Hon Onyeagucha further added that he will also push for the immediate conversion of Sam Mbakwe cargo airport to International airport to increase the ease of doing business in the state and also strengthen the economy of the state. The former Secretary to the Government of Imo also promised that he shall push for the dualization of Owerri-Umuahia road making it a dual carriageway.
He thanked the group for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to let them down.
Consequently, the Director General of Onyeagucha campaign organisation, Chief Martin Opara expressed his appreciation to the group for their commitment to Onyeagucha’s Senatorial aspiration and assured them of Onyeagucha’s readiness in providing quality and sound representation at the senate.
Highpoint of the event was the formal handover and presentation of the forms to Onyeagucha. The event was attended by the leadership of the group and all the local government coordinators from the nine local governments of Owerri zone.
