The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Orlu branch on Friday March 4, 2022 joined the rest of the world to commemorate this year’s world engineering day for sustainable development with the theme “Build Back Wiser the Engineering Future”
World Engineering day is a day set aside globally to appreciate and recognize the achievements and contributions of Engineers in ensuring sustainable development in the society.
Delivering his welcome address, the Chairman of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Orlu branch, Engr. Gerald Okwe, MNSE, disclosed that world engineering day was proclaimed by UNSECO at its 40th general conference in 2019 and celebrated globally on 4th March annually.
Engr. Okwe disclosed that the celebration offers opportunity to highlight engineers and their achievements in today’s modern world and as well improve public understanding of how engineering and technology can be used in addressing the risk of climate change to ensure sustainable development.
Highlight of the occasion which took place on zoom was a lecture delivered by the Chairman of NSE Orlu branch, Engr. Gerald Okwe titled “Evaluating the Potentials and Challenges of Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development in Nigeria (with emphasis on photovoltaic energy generation).
Engr. Okwe in his lecture reiterated that if the subject matter as encapsulated in his lecture is put into practice, it will be of help in achieving a milestone in the practice of engineering profession for secured life and future of Nigeria and the world at large.
In his contribution, the General Secretary of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Orlu branch, Engr. Rev. Anthony Chukwuka Ekejiuba, thanked all participants at this year’s World Engineering day celebration for finding time to be part of the occasion. He prayed for God’s guidance and protection upon each and every one of them.
This year’s occasion was attended by many members of the association from within and outside the state through zoom among whom are Engr. Chief Okereke, FNSE, Engr. Ben Amanze, Vice Chairman and a host of others.
