The People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Imo State Chapter, has expressed its resolve to take over the Government House, Owerri popularly called the Douglas House.
They made the claim at the weekend through its newly elected state chairman, Hon Uchechukwu Isiodu who emerged after the party’s state congress which took place at the Bongo Centre, Owerri.
The chairman made the comment at the sideline of an interview with our reporter. Isiodu expressed optimism to turn situation around for the party which he stated was badly run previously promising that no stone will be left unturned in its effort to take power in the state.
Hear him, “today marks a new beginning in Imo. We have a lot in our agenda to fix the party in the state which has been backward. We are starting with membership drive and publicity to win stronger followership in order to announce PRP again and again.
“We are very prepared to take over government house in Owerri in order to salvage the situation for Nde Imo. Imo has been undergoing serious political trauma and we have the remedy to that. The once peaceful state has been engulfed by killings and war as a result of political manipulations.
He identified political apathy as a challenge in the state which he described as an impediment to development. In his words, “we don’t join political parties, we don’t vote, we sit-at-home, yet we expect things to happen our own way. We should plant, water, and watch our resources so we can have our destiny in our hands’’
While denying the charge of a faction in the party he admitted that the former chairman only stopped coming to meetings but remain updated with activities in the party. He also dismissed the insinuation that the party is an Hausa party but claimed that it has a national outlook.
The youthful chairman informed further that his party is like a beautiful bride that has so many suitors beckoning on it expressing interest to run on its platform for political offices.
According to him, “we had since resisted hijack of the party waiting to conclude our congress. Now we can go ahead to assess the candidates on the way forward so that we can present quality candidates that can win.’’
