OUTRAGE OVER DEATH OF A MINOR SHOT BY A SEXAGENARIAN

Outrage over the death of a minor allegedly shot by a middle aged man almost degenerated to arson but for the timely intervention of the police penultimate Thursday. The genesis of the crisis, according to eye-witness, was the shooting of a 13-year-old student of Urban Development Secondary School in the World Bank area of Owerri, Imo State, over a week ago over the retrieving of a football that got into the compound of a sexagenarian resident identified as Donald Mbamah who share the same fence with the school.

The victim, Victor Paul, who was playing ball with his mates at break time in the school was allegedly accosted and shot by the lone occupant of the house and was rushed to the Imo Specialist Hospital Umuguma in a very critical condition.

According to eye-witnesses, the tragic incident occurred when Victor entered Mbamah’s compound to retrieve a ball that had accidentally entered there while playing a football game. At this point the suspect allegedly fetched a gun and shot the hapless boy instead of returning the ball to them.

Policemen from the New Owerri Police Station promptly arrested Mbamah owing to rising tension in the area. According to reports, the police were yet to charge him to court at the time of filing this report.
