The 22nd of March marked a historic day in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, as His Royal Majesty Ikenna Alagba (Egede Igwe) officially received Staff of Office as the traditional ruler of Umuduru Egbeaguru Ancient Kingdom. The grand occasion, which took place at the State Government House, Owerri, had in attendance go government official with the governor performing the official handover of staff of office to the Monarch.
The epoch-making event drew thousands of well-wishers from Umuduru Egbeaguru and Onuimo LGA, who gathered in solidarity with their newly installed monarch.
HRM Ikenna Alagba is widely revered for his progressive leadership, commitment to development, and genuine concern for his people. His ascension to the throne has been met with immense support and enthusiasm, as he is regarded as a leader who embodies wisdom, integrity, and a deep sense of duty.
Presenting the Staff of Office, Governor Hope Uzodimma congratulated the new monarch and urged him to use his position to promote unity, peace, and progress in his kingdom, Onuimo LGA, and Imo State at large.
“You are entrusted with a sacred responsibility,” the governor stated. “I urge you to uphold honesty, peace, and justice in leadership. Your role is to support the local government chairman and councillors in maintaining law and order within the community.”
Following the ceremony, Egede Igwe was warmly received at his palace in Ozimo, Umuduru Egbeaguru, where another gathering of men, women, and youths eagerly awaited his arrival. The atmosphere was electric with excitement as the people welcomed their king home.
In his acceptance speech, Egede Igwe expressed profound gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to lead with wisdom, justice, divine guidance, and compassion. He vowed to protect the land, uphold the traditions and values of his people, and promote peace, prosperity, and happiness for all.
The high point of the occasion was display of traditional dance such as masquerade performances, reflecting the deep-rooted heritage of the people.
