–         Says, Gov Contested Against Charter Of Equity

Orlu Equity Group, a socio-political organization has reacted to reports that emanated from a recent meeting that the Governor of Imo State Hope Uzodinma held with some leaders of Owerri zone, where he was said to have thrown his weight behind Owerri zone’s clamour for the governorship position, come 2027.

The leader of the group, Clinton Nnadiekwe, while addressing newsmen, yesterday, said the report came to them as a surprise. “We are surprised that Governor Hope Uzodinma, who contested in 2019 against the Imo Charter of Equity, could take such a stand on behalf of the people of Orlu zone. We want to make it clear that Orlu people will decide who to vote for in 2027.

“It is not the prerogative of the Governor to tell Orlu people who to vote for. Gov Uzodinma lacks the capacity and the moral right to decide the voting pattern of the 12 Local Government Areas in Orlu zone.

“As a matter of fact, before now, we had concluded that it is the turn of either Owerri or Okigwe zone to produce the next Governor of Imo State. But recent developments have shown that the two zones are yet to put their houses in order. Hence, it will no longer be possible for few individuals to sit down somewhere and decide who and how Orlu people will vote for in 2027.

“That era is gone and gone forever because those who spearheaded such moves in the past were neither motivated by patriotism nor their sensitivity to the plight of the people but by their selfish interests and gluttonous acquisition tendency at expenese of the interests of Orlu people.”
