Following the trending radio interview of the Imo Commissioner for information and strategy, Declan Emelumba on the burning issue of Imo Charter of Equity, Mike Nwachukwu, a former Owerri Zone Senatorial Candidate has charged Owerri people to be more strategic, focused and intentionally agree with Okigwe zone in order to grab power come 2027.
Speaking to the press in Owerri, Nwachukwu quoted Emelumba’s speech on the charter of equity as follows:
“The charter of Equity is not a law and therefore, is not legally enforceable.
In 2023, when the charter of Equity was introduced with the principle that no zone should contest against the Orlu Zone, it was not followed. Owerri Zone fielded a candidate under the PDP, while Okigwe zone fielded a candidate under the Labour party. Despite the existence of the Charter of Equity, the candidates still challenged the election results upto the supreme court. Since the Charter of Equity did not hold in 2023, there is no reason to expect it to be followed in 2027″
Nwachukwu argued that no one can fault the official information delivered unadulterated by the Commissioner for information, hence urged Owerri Zone people to wake up from their deep slumber of many years and take their destiny into their hands.
The Renowned Banker turned politician maintained that the only way Owerri Zone can produce the next governor of Imo State is by aligning and filing behind the most credible candidate who has a strong and resilient political network cutting across the 305 electoral wards of Imo State and as well has the needed resources to achieve such venture.
According to him, concise steps must be taken to ensure that this credible candidate from Owerri Zone extraction secures the ticket of the major opposition parties in the state and must receive the united support of the Owerri people.
He emphasized that Owerri Zone must make efforts towards bringing Okigwe zone in the same page, using a more structured and formal manner to reconcile their differences while taking into cognizance their interest in the elevated position.
Nwachukwu urged his people to consider the organized template provided by him which clearly stipulates how they can win the next election, stressing that when the template is adopted, they stand a better chance of occupying the Douglas House.
