– Says; Orlu Will Still Remain In Power, If……..
A prominent son of Orlu zone, Chief Odinaka CA Emejuru, the Orlu Zonal Coordinator, Coalition of Obidient structures has described the clamour for the governorship position in Imo state by Okigwe and Okigwe zones as a worthwhile venture which he and some other prominent Orlu people will gladly support. “But considering the look of things and past records Owerri and Okigwe zones are not serious in their respective clamour for the governorship position. They seem to be merely playing to the gallery.”
Emejuru aligned himself with Governor Ikedi Ohakim’s statement that power is taken and not given to any person on a platter of gold. Hence any person or group that sincerely desires power should back their clamour with the seriousness it deserves and show enough commitment. If Owerri and Okigwe zones fail to do this, power will remain in Orlu and nobody should be blamed for that ”.
Emejuru, further noted that in previous outings, there were situations when majority of those who strived for the governorship position were either pretenders or came out to seek relevance. On the other hand, those who were serious and had the capacity to govern the state were frustrated out of the race by some selfish power brokers.
He called on Owerri and Okigwe zones to screen those clamouring for the governorship slot with a view to separating the wheat from the chaff instead of making the race an all comers’ affair.
He further noted that the majority of those who clamoured for the governorship position in the past were spoilers who had ways of achieving their illicit agenda.
When asked if Orlu zone has not had enough of the governorship position, considering the number of years that Governors Achike Udenwa, Rochas Okorocha and Hope Uzodinma spent on the seat, Emejuru, who is the Orlu Zonal Coordinator of the Coalition of Obedient Structures, said, “that was why myself and some other well meaning Orlu sons and daughters supported either Owerri or Okigwe zone to produce the governor then. But regrettably the same Owerri and Okigwe zones, because of selfish inclination mobilized support for the candidate from Orlu zone, thereby making us look stupid. That is why this time around, we will only support any of the two zones if they show capacity and seriousness to grab power, else, we consider their agitations as mere jokes”.
He recalled when Owerri and Okigwe had candidates in the last governorship election “Owerri zone produced the PDP candidate while Okigwe produced the candidate of Labour Party (LP). Did the people of Owerri zone vote for their son in the PDP or did Okigwe zone vote for their son in the Labour Party. Rather, they mobilized support for an Orlu son who was the candidate of the APC.
They all have the mentality of “if it is not me, let the position elude our zone, instead of another person to get it. Besides, most of them also see the election period as an opportunity to enrich themselves at the expense of the collective interests of their respective zones, which is very bad.
