-Intensifies Patrols, Community Engagement, Intelligence Gathering To Protect Residents

The Ministry of Homeland and Vigilante Affairs has expressed the commitment in stamping out insecurity in Imo in line with the 3R government policies and programs.

The Commissioner of the Ministry, Hon. Osakwe Abiazie Modestus in a release dated Febuary 26,2025 which made available to Newsmen in Owerri yesterday stated that over the years, the administration has demonstrated proactive measures in addressing security challenges, ensuring peace, and promoting stability across the state. In light of recent security operations in neighboring states targeting kidnappers, bandits, drug dealers, internet fraudsters, and witch doctors who aid criminal activities through the notorious Oke-ite and other charms, the Government of Imo State is taking decisive steps to prevent any spillover of criminal elements into our communities.

The release reads in part,”The Imo State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents.

“The Ministry of Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, in collaboration with security agencies, has intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering across all border communities to forestall any potential security breaches. Recognizing the concerns of residents, particularly those in boundary communities, the government has reinforced security structures, ensuring that Imo State remains impenetrable to criminal infiltration. Patrols, checkpoints, and community-based intelligence efforts have been strengthened to guarantee the safety of all law-abiding citizens.

“To further fortify these measures, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any unfamiliar or suspicious individuals in their communities to security agencies. The importance of community participation in intelligence gathering cannot be overstated, as it enhances the effectiveness of security efforts. Any credible information provided will be treated with utmost confidentiality and urgency to prevent criminal activities before they take root.

“Additionally, the government is calling on the Presidents-General of all Town Unions across the State to take a proactive role in profiling, documenting community members and identifying suspicious elements. In view of that, all landlords in Imo State are to obtain the Acquaintance Forms from the Traditional Rulers or the Presidents-General of Town Unions which their tenants shall duly complete and return to the Presidents-General.

“The Executive Chairmen of Local Government Areas are to coordinate the distribution of the Forms and ensure total compliance. All landlords in the state must know that any building that harbors criminal elements or where criminal activities take place shall be demolished and the land taken over by the Government. This grassroots approach is vital in ensuring that no criminal elements find safe haven within our communities. The collaboration between traditional institutions, town unions, and security operatives will significantly bolster the government’s strategy in maintaining law and order, and keeping Imo safe for all.

“The Imo State Government reassures all residents that it remains steadfast in its commitment to peace and security. No effort will be spared in ensuring that criminals have no place in our state. The Ministry of Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs will continue to work closely with all security agencies to sustain the peace and safety currently enjoyed in Imo. Residents are encouraged to go about their daily activities without fear, knowing that their security remains the government’s top priority”.
