The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC) has officially appointed Engr. Sir Peter C. Ohagwa as its new Country President.

The inauguration ceremony held in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state  capital, marked the transition of leadership from Prof. Mercy Funmi Adesanya Davies to Engr. Ohagwa, a seasoned peace advocate and conflict resolution expert.

The appointment of Engr. Ohagwa, erstwhile Director  General, Bureau For Peace and Conflict Resolution in Imo state has elicited widespread jubilation, particularly in his home state, which takes pride in producing the new head of UN-POLAC in Nigeria.

Engr. Ohagwa’s new role is a testament to his unwavering dedication to peace building, conflict resolution, and social justice advocacy.

Over the years, he has been instrumental in fostering harmony, mediating community disputes, and leading efforts to abolish the Osu caste system. His impact extends both locally and internationally, earning him recognition as a committed peace ambassador.

Prior to his recent appointment, Ohagwa, served as: Deputy Country President of UN-POLAC, Former Imo State Coordinator, UN-POLAC, Commandant, Imo Peace Corps and Director General, Bureau for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Imo State Government

His extensive experience in these roles has significantly contributed to the promotion of peace, unity, and societal transformation in Nigeria.

As the new Country President, Engr. Ohagwa is expected to lead UN-POLAC to greater heights, strengthening its mission of promoting peaceful coexistence, human rights, and sustainable development.

Established in 2001, UN-POLAC is an autonomous international institution affiliated with the United Nations and UNESCO. It was created in line with the UN General Assembly’s resolution declaring 2001-2010 as the Decade for Peace and Non-Violence, with a mandate to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNESCO’s Culture of Peace initiative. The organization plays a crucial role in maintaining peace, security, and the restoration of human dignity across Nigeria and Africa.

Congratulating Ohagwa on his new role, Engr. Onyenobi C. Samuel, the Imo State Coordinator of UN-POLAC, who expressed confidence in his leadership, said, “We believe that under your guidance, UN-POLAC will achieve even greater success in fostering peace and security. Your visionary leadership will leave a lasting impact on Nigeria and beyond.”
