–         Assures Affected Community Of Commitment To Public Safety

The Imo State Police Command has commenced investigation into the report of a threatening letter addressed to the people of Umuoba Irette, in Owerri West Local Government Area of the State.

The Public Relations Officer of Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, in a release dated February, 12, 2025, said, “It has come to the attention of the Command that the following message was posted in Umuoba Community, Irete, Owerri West LGA of Imo State:

“Fulani herdsmen, we are coming, wait for us at any time at any moment now wait for us”

Preliminary investigations have revealed that this message is a calculated attempt by certain elements to incite unnecessary fear and apprehension among the public and to destabilize the peace and security currently enjoyed in Imo State.

In response, the Command has launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for disseminating this threat, and to ascertain their motives. We remain committed to ensuring that any attempt to undermine public safety will be met with swift and decisive action.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma wishes to reassure the public—especially the residents of Irete—that there is no cause for alarm. In addition, the Divisional Police Officer, together with local vigilantes, has visited the community to assess the situation and engage with residents, further reinforcing our proactive measures to ensure their safety.

Citizens are encouraged to continue with their lawful businesses and daily activities without fear, as the Police, in synergy with other security agencies and local vigilantes, are working harmoniously to safeguard the security and well-being of everyone in Imo State.

The Command also calls on all members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities immediately to the nearest police station or via 0803 477 3600, 0814 802 4755. The safety and security of every community in Imo State remains the Command’s utmost priority”.
