–  Set To Penalize Teachers, Students, Found Loitering Doing School Hours

The government of Anambra State, in a bid to ensure that its free education policy for primary and secondary school pupils yields results, has resolved to arrest and prosecute parents whose children and wards are found hawking goods, loitering or engaging in any kind of frivolity doing school hours.

The state government in a release dated February, 11, 2025 and signed by Hon Shedrack Azubuike, Mayor of Orumba South Local Government Area, stated that, “This is to inform the general public that I, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, the Mayor of Orumba South Council have directed on the instruction of the governor (Prof. Charles C. Soludo CFR), the following education policies which will be strictly enforced:

1. Children seen hawking during school hours will be rescued and detained until their parents are located.

2. Pupils loitering in uniforms during school hours will be rescued and detained until their parents are located.

3. Teachers found loitering or in markets during school hours will be arrested.

The Governor has ensured free education for all primary and secondary school students. Therefore, all children must return to school without delay.

Strict disciplinary actions will also be taken against parents and guardians of children found violating these directives. Parents are strongly advised to ensure that their children attend school regularly.
