–      As Founder, Dr Chika Ugbaja Receives Commendation

The Senate of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives has conferred an Award of Excellence on the Orlu United Medical Foundation (OUMF) owners of Merit College of Nursing Sciences, Umuowa, Orlu as one of the best Colleges of Nursing Sciences in Nigeria.

The award was presented when the National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives (NANSNMA) led by the Senate President, Comrade Sopuruchukwu Emenalo visited the college on Tuesday, January, 7, 2024.

The purpose of the visit, according to Emenalo, was to recognize and celebrate the remarkable contributions of Orlu United Medical Foundation and its Founder, Dr Chika Ugbaja to the advancement of Nursing Education in Nigeria.

The event was well attended by the Founder of the Foundation, Dr Chika Ugbaja, the management team of the College led by the Provost and the Directors of the Foundation.

The cordial atmosphere of camaraderie reflected the collaborative relationship between the student nurses and the leadership of the Foundation that is committed to excellence in all ramifications.

The high point of the visit was the presentation of a Certificate of Excellence to Orlu United Medical Foundation and its Founder, Dr (Mrs) Chika Ugbaja, in recognition of their unwavering commitment to nurturing and enthroning high quality health care services in Nigeria.

“In his address, Comr. Emenalo Sopuruchukwu extolled the numerous achievements of OUMF, emphasizing the transformational impact it has had on nursing training in the country. He highlighted the various initiatives and programs introduced by the foundation that have greatly benefited nursing and midwifery students. The Senate President noted that during an emergency plenary session, all nursing and midwifery students unanimously agreed that the foundation deserved this prestigious award for its exemplary leadership and innovative approach to medical training.

Furthermore, Comr. Emenalo Sopuruchukwu reiterated the importance of quality education in the medical sector, pointing out that the contributions of Dr. Mrs. Chika Ugbaja and her team at the Merit College of Nursing Sciences have set a benchmark for other institutions to follow. He underscored that currently, the college stands out as one of the best nursing institutions in Nigeria, and its exemplary practices must be emulated across the sector to uplift the standard of nursing education nationwide.

Dr. Mrs. Chika Ugbaja, in her response to the award, expressed immense gratitude towards the student nurses and the Senate for their recognition. She reaffirmed her commitment to do more.  She went further to thank the leadership of the Senate ably led by Comr. Emenalo Sopuruchukwu V. While describing him as an ambassador of the College with an overwhelming leadership qualities to do exploits. She promised to always partner with Nigerian Student Nurses and midwives under NANSNM to  advocate  for and promote quality nursing education in Nigeria”
