-Lecturers Insist Ground Of Dissolution Of UNIZIK Governing Council Will Be Same As AIFCE, If…
There are reports of fear and palpable tension at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, the Imo State capital following the sack of the Chairman, Governing Council, Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka, Amb. Greg Mbadiwe,by the federal government.
It was gathered that the Governing Council Chairman’s sack stems from the institution’s desperate and clandestine plot to impose an unqualified person as Vice Chancellor, against laid down rules, regulations and guidelines.
Top management staff of the AIFCE, including Professors are of the opinion that if the federal government could clamp down on the Nnamdi Azikwe University, Akwa, it is very likely that it will also clamp down on the governing council of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education where the same scenario of flagrant impunity and disregard for appointment of a Vice Chancellor is playing out in a more glaring and disturbing manner.
A source close to the Governing Council chairman,Dr. Joy Emordi of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education who expressed concern over the possibility of the federal government wielding the big stick on the institution said, “honestly, I am worried about reports of what happened at UNIZIK. If the federal government could sack the Governing Council Chairman because of attempt to impose Dr benard Odoh, a former governorship candidate and Chieftain of the All Progressive Council who is said to be unqualified as the Vice Chancellor of UNIZIK, the same thing may happen at the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri.
“In the case of Dr Odoh, his highest credential are that he was Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Ebonyi State and a former governorship candidate on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA in addition to holding some positions in UNIZIK,like Lemchi claims too.
“On the other hand, Dr Lemchi, now Professor Lemchi strong point is the interest of those in the corridors of power in Imo State to ensuring that she occupies the position of Vice Chancellors, whether or not she is qualified for the position”.
A lecturer at the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “since the federal government has stepped in and addressed the impunity being perpetrated at the Nnamdi Azikwe University it will be wrong to keep silent about or condone what is happening at the AIFCE, because Lemchi is not qualified to be Vice Chancellor of the institution because her appointment as Professor is questionable. However, assuming without conceding that she is a Chief Lecturer in AIFCE has she been eveluated to become a Professor let alone spending the mandatory number of years required for appointment as Vice Chancellor of a university.
The answer is capital “No”, because the law stipulates that one must have been a Professor for at least for some years to qualify for Vice Chancellorship”.
A glance at Dr Mrs Lemchi’s profile as Provost of AIFCE, shows that she was born on 11th September, 1969 at Obollo, Isiala Mbano.
After obtaining her first school Leaving Certificate and the West African School Certificate in 1980 and 1986, respectively, she obtained a Bachelors Degree in 1990, Masters Degree in1994 and Doctorate Degree in 2006.
