-Accuses Him Of Causing Excruciating Pains To Imo Workers
Imo State Labour Party has vehemently condemned Governor Hope Uzodinma’s gross silence on the #70,000 minimum wage implementation approved by the federal government which has already been implemented by some governors in so many other states including those states with less external and internal revenue portfolios than Imo State.
Speaking to the press in Owerri yesterday, the State Party Chairman, Barr. Calistus Ihejiagwa expressed utmost disappointment at the governor’s insensitivity to the plights of the workers given the country’s bedeviling economic situation and inflation rate which has skyrocketed prices of food and other goods and services.
According to him, it is only a heartless and thoughtless leader will be stiff-necked on the current minimum wage implementation when #70,000 cannot even purchase a bag of rice, beans and other edibles in the market.
The Chairman described the governor as a diaspora governor who dawdles and fritters time and resources away while his State burns, adding that there is no government presence in the state, instead Imo people have seen the worse of governance under Uzodinma.
The Chairman observed that the money the governor spends on chattering private jets visiting Imo State will be enough to pay Imo State if he stays in the State for just 3 months.
He lamented that Imo is being neglected, run aground and stagnant amid Uzodinma’s constant Abuja trips, faulting the gradual demise of accountable government, responsive leadership and judicious management of public resources since Uzodinma’s take over.
Ihejiagwa condemned in clear terms Uzodinma’s staunch refusal to implement the previous #30,000 agreed on in 2019 and his abject silence on implementing the new national minimum wage of 70,000 which some other governors have approved even on higher amounts and already set in motion processes to ensure immediate implementation.
He expressed dismay that Uzodinma’s refusal to implement the minimum wage has resulted to NLC’s shut down of activities in the state, thereby increasing the hardship endured by workers and other indigenes of the state.
Ihejiagwa noted that Uzodinma led- administration has since its inception unleashed untold hardship, excruciating pains, anguish and sorrow to Imo populace especially the workers whom he said, the governor has deliberately deprived many benefits, and constantly proven uninterested in their welfare.
He called on Governor Hope Uzodinma to concentrate on governing Imo state, mm reconstructing the terrible roads, creating jobs, empowering youths, paying civil servants, repairing infrastructural decays and restoring security in the state which are his primary responsibilities, and shun seeking unforeseen positions in Abuja.
