The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), the umbrella body of pposition political parties in Nigeria, has raised alarm over a clandestine plot that is allegedly spearheaded by some security agencies in connivance with a faction loyal with the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, to frame up Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere, representing Ideato North/Ideato South federal constituency of Imo State, who is also the group’s spokesperson.
The group in a statement it issuednin Abuja yesterday, said, “it has come to our knowledge that some highly placed persons who are not comfortable with the outspoken nature of Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere, who has persistently exposed the fraudulent and atrocious activities of some persons in the corridors of power have conspired to tarnish his image, arrest and detain him on trumped up charges that border on bribery of judicial officers, criminal defamation, treason and other concocted offences that are neither here nor there.”
The group further said, “we have it on good authority that some overzealous security agencies in connivance with some desperate politicians loyal to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minster Wike, have concluded plans to silence Hon Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere with trumped up charges of alleged bribery of judicial officers, criminal defamation, treason and numerous other concocted criminal offenses in a desperate bid to blackmail him and rubbish his rising political profile that is linked to his exceptional performance and legislative prowess.
They noted that those behind the despicable plot also want to intimidate him into abandoning his commitment to exposing political, legal and leadership atrocities of the pro-Wike groups in their bid to destabilize Rivers State, destroy the PDP and neutralize the endless land grabbing allegations.
