–         As More Revelations Emerge On How Bailiff, Onyekachi Forged Proof Of Service, Confiscated Peoples’ Property

–         Boasts Of Being Untouchable

The four persons who were arrested at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council and sent to prison without arraignment were released on Tuesday, December, 10, after the Judge vacated her Order.

It was reported that the bailiff named Onyekachi Uba conspired with the police to imprison the 4 occupants of the Imo NUJ Secretariat while the matter was still pending in Court. It was also gathered that despite the fact that the Order for which the occupants were imprisoned did not mention or contain anything about property, yet Onyekachi, who reportedly brags that he has several commercial vehicles that make returns to him, confiscates properties which he allegedly sells and makes money. Hence, people are asking why he confiscates properties that are not recorded in the Court Orders.

“Why did he send them to prison without arraignment? He was quoted as telling some of his colleagues that he is untouchable by virtue of his relationship with the Chairman, Imo Traditional Institution and Community Policing, HRM, Eze Emma Okeke, who is the traditional ruler of his Community, Amaifeke, Orlu.”

A lawyer who commented on the development on the condition of anonymity said, “what the bailiff in question does is, when he comes to a person’s home or office, he files back dated proof of service that makes it difficult for the person to do the needful within the specified time frame, thereby jeopardizing his case at the instance of his opponents who often pay him huge amounts of money for such hatchet jobs. That is how he deceived the Magistrate by filing proof of service that falsely indicated that Imo NUJ had been properly served”.
