–         Set To Take Decisive Action Against Erring Staff

The Imo State Ministry of Education has, in line with its zero tolerance for all kinds of unprofessional and unethical conduct, actions and attitude urged the staff, especially the Area Education Evaluators (AEEs) to adhere strictly to civil service rules, proceedure and guidelines in the discharge of their duties to avoid getting into trouble.

A Director in the Ministry who does not want his name in print said the directive was given at a sensitization seminar organized for the Area Education Evaluators and other stakeholders before the commencement of the Junior Secondary School (JSS) examination.

He said the warning became necessary following reports of extortion, lack of transparency, circumvention of laid down rules and procedure by some of the AEEs in the discharge of their duties.

According to the Director, “the Honorable Commissioner for Education, Prof Johncliff Nwadike, a seasoned academic who places much premium on quality service delivery  as practiced and advocated by the Governor Hope Uzodinma administration is poised to ensure that the Governor’s determination to charge the narrative, transform and restore the lost glory of the education sector in the state is accomplished.

“The ministry is concerned about the performance of the AEEs and what they do because they serve as ambassadors and representatives of the Ministry in the Local Government Areas. They deal with the teachers, students and pupils. Hence, their actions and inactions directly affect the image and perception of the ministry which they represent.”

He commended the Governor, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodinma for appointing Prof Nwadike as a Commissioner and for also providing him with the necessary wherewithal to perform his duties optimally.

“Since Prof Nwadike’s emergence as the Commissioner for Education coupled with the support and assistance of the Governor who is passionately committed to improving the education sector, there  have been periodic capacity enhancement seminars, lectures and workshops for Principals, Head Teachers and staff of the ministry who have taken advantage of the opportunities to enhance their knowledge, skills and capacity for optimal performance and quality service delivery.”

Effort to reach the Commissioner Prof Johncliff Nwadike and the Permanent Secretary, Barr Mrs Chinyere Ibe for comment,  proved abortive as they were said to be busy
