–         Parishioners Call For Prayers

The alarming rate of insecurity in Imo State seems to have taken a more frightening dimension, despite the orchestrated claims by the state government that all is well.

The abduction of a Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Emmanuel Azubuike of St Theresa’s Catholic Church Parish, Obollo, in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, on Tuesday, gives credence to reports that citizens of the state have become endangered species, considering the uncontrolled menace of kidnappers, ritual killers and organ harvesters who have been operating with ignominy.

The priest was reportedly abducted by the gunmen along Ayayi community on his way back to his parish after an assignment.

“The Catholic Diocese of Okigwe has issued an urgent statement calling for prayers from the clergy and laity for the priest’s safe return.

“We solicit your fervent prayers that he may come back to us safe and sound, while trusting in your goodwill and solidarity,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident.

Police spokesman, Henry Okoye, assured that a specialized team has been formed to locate the kidnapped priest and bring the perpetrators to justice”.

Imolites who expressed dismay over the development wondered why the Hope Uzodinma administration has been very docile and unable to take decisive steps towards addressing the situation with a view to ensuring the security of lives and property.
