–         Complex Named After National Chairman Reversed

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede chapter is presently embroiled in a cold war that will rock the foundation of the institution if not urgently checked.

Investigation by Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper indicates that the cold war that has led to the suspension of the current president of ASUP in the institution, Comrade Engr Stanley Nwadike and the reversal of the solidarity complex named after the National Chairman of the Union, Anderson Ezeibe to its former name is not unconnected with the emergence of Dr (Mrs) Basilia Igbokwe as the current Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.

It was gathered that the National President of ASUP, Anderson Ezeibe who was among the seven candidates that contested for the Rectorship of the institution and did not support the incumbent who  was among the 7 contestants.

A source who spoke to this reporter on the condition of anonymity, said,  “the Chairman, Fed PolyNek chapter of ASUP, is now in the eye of the storm because he is seen as a loyalist and confidant of the National Chairman, Anderson Ezeibe, whose loyalty to the Rector is in  doubt.

To this end, he was suspended at the third quarterly statutory congress of the union held at the ASUP Solidarity Complex, where other resolutions were adopted.

A letter dated October, 30, 2024 and addressed to the Rector of the institution conveyed the resolutions reached at the congress which include, the suspension of ASUP PolyNek executive council led by Engr Nwadike, the freezing of ASUP Accounts with Zenith and Fidelity Banks, dissociation from the national strike and raising a disclaimer in a national daily newspaper, among others.

The letter which was signed by Dr. Simon Onyewenjo, Dr. Anayo Uhiara, Dr. Ejike Ibecheazorsbe, Dr. Emma Nosike, Dr. Paul Saint Christopher, Dr. Chibuzor Okeke, Engr. Nworie Nobert, Mr. Ibe Cyril,and copied to the Chairman, Governing Council, Federal Poly Nekede, Bursar, Federal Poly Nekede, National President of ASUP, Manager, Fidelity Bank Douglas Road, Owerri, Manager, Zenith Bank Wetheral, Owerri, reads, “Today, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Nekede Chapter, held its 3rd  Quarter Statutory Congress at ASUP Solidarity Complex and took the following resolutions:

Suspension of ASUPNek Chapter Executive Council (CEC): The executive of ASUPNek under Engr. Stanley Nwadike’s leadership was during the meeting today suspended through a motion on vote of no confidence raised and supported by members without counter motion.

Freezing of ASUP Account: The congress resolved today to freeze, place allen and suspend all forms of withdrawal from the union’s account with both Zenith and Fidelity banks.

Disassociation from National Strike: The congress resolved to disassociate our chapter from every false claim that the national president of ASUP and his cohorts in this criminal enterprise of using the appointment of the 9th substantive Rector Federal Polytechnic Nekede as a reason for calling a national strike. The congress also resolved to raise a disclaimer in a national daily and to all relevant government offices for their information and necessary action.

Renaming of Solidarity Complex: The Anderson Ezeibe Solidarity Complex reverts to its original name of ASUPNek Solidarity Complex.

Property Protection: That the ASUP solidarity complex remains locked and secured to safeguard properties.

Rector’s Responsibility: The Rector shall ensure the safety of ASUPNek property within the institution”.

Responding to the development, Comrade Nwadike in a letter which he addressed to the congress, denied all the allegations which he said are synonymous with giving a dog a bad name to hang it.
