Uratta social club of Nigeria has conducted a free, fair and credible election at the club house located within the hinterland of Uratta Ancient Kingdom. The Uratta social club of Nigeria with forty-four (44) members in attendance excluding a five man electoral committee, elected Chief Alexander Uche (Ohamadike Obibi Uratta) as their National President. The election which was keenly contested but very transparent as witnessed by this reporter was an open secret ballot whereby members wrote the first alphabet of the names of their choice candidates and dropped the names in a container placed on a table at the center of the hall.
Ohamadike Obibi Uratta, Chief Alexander Nnamdi Uche beat his only opponent, Alphonsus Oriaku, a former Vice Chairman by 3 votes to 12 to emerge as the National President of the club for a period of three years. His deputy, Christian Amadi was however elected unopposed and by a vo was unanimously endorsed through a voice vote. The Secretary General of the Association was also elected unopposed in the person of Mr Jude alongside Cyprian Osuji, Mike Odu, Ebere Nnadi as Assistant Secretary, Financial Secretary and Public Relations Officer (PRO) respectively. The post of Treasurer was keenly contested by the trio of Emmanuel Anyasodo, Hyacinth Opara and Kenneth Uka with the last beating the first two with 24 votes against 9 and 10, to emerge. Similarly, Bede Ndukwe scored 22 votes to defeat Raymond Amaram.
Mrs Chinwe who did not purchase form earlier for any office was in the absence of a contestant adopted as Provost. The newly elected executive after swearing an oath of allegiance before the Chairman of the electoral committee, Chief Damian Kamalu, were ushered to the high table to resume duty.
He also assured that he will recover the plot of land meant for the headquarters of the club and build it. He reaffirmed his resolve to take the Uratta social club of Nigerians to greater heights and make it more attractive and popular.
In terms of experience, Chief Alexander Nnamdi Uche averred that he started his journey in Lagos State where he debuted as Chairmen of Umuodu Mbieri Town Union, Lagos branch. He was also a member of Council social club of Nigeria and rose to become its patron.
“My motive for contesting as Chairman of Uratta social club of Nigeria is to bring back those old members who left because of bad leadership. Some of the new members who may not be financially up to date, will be assisted. I hereby call on all sons and daughters of Uratta who may have been aggrieved for one reason or the other, to rejoin the club to enable us to contribute to community development projects. Uratta social club of Nigeria used to award scholarships, support anyone in business, pay school fees for the indigent and even medical bills. If elected, today, I will make sure I lift Uratta social club by mobilizing thousands of prospective members to join” he said.
In his acceptance and post election speech, the newly elected National President of Uratta social club of Nigeria, Chief Alexander Nnamdi Uche thanked the members for finding him worthy, fit and proper to pilot the affairs of the famous Uratta social club of Nigeria for the next three years. He promised to live up to their expectations and will never betray the confidence and trust they repose in him. He called on every member including those who lost the election to continue to support him and where necessary advise the winners where they would derail. He offered to lead with the fear of God Almighty without fear, favour or disregard for the opinions and feelings of others..
