– Describes Him As Saviour
The residents of Umuchima, in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, have doffed their hats for Hon Barr Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere , representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly for his intervention that has halted the devastating gully erosion that would have swept off the community.
The people who stated this in a radio programme, weekend, in Owerri, the state capital stated that, the federal lawmaker has saved them from going into extinction.
“A leader in the community, Barr. Uche Alisigwe stated that the gully erosion hasn’t extended much further since remedial work started on the site through Ugochinyere’s intervention.
He noted that the community had protested on the road and cried out for help but got no response until Ugochinyere came to the rescue.
He frowned that the gully erosion had buried many houses but expressed joy that residents of the community can now sleep with their two eyes closed since Ikenga came.
“If not for Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, we would have gone extinct by now. Since work started on the site, the situation is now under control.
“Before now, the moment the weather changed, our people would become apprehensive. But now, we can sleep with our two eyes closed because the erosion has not extended an inch since the work started.
“With the level of work done already, vehicles may begin to ply the site in two months time.
“Ugochinyere told us the day they would come to the site to commence work, and that day, they came.
“Governor Hope Uzodimma is our in-law. He should assist Ugochinyere. If he doesn’t help to tackle the erosion, how would he visit his in-laws”.
“If the state government had intervened like Ugochinyere, the erosion would have been a thing of the past by now”, he stated.
Another leader in the community, Hon. Fidelis Amazueme said Ugochinyere has touched the people’s hearts in a way they will never forget.
Amazueme noted that they had written to the Ecological Office Abuja; Imo State government and Senator Osita Izunaso representing Orlu Zone save them from the ravaging erosion.
He regretted that nothing was done until Ugochinyere came to their rescue.
Amazueme said more than 40 houses had been buried by the erosion before work started.
“I keep asking – where is the conscience of government? We had written to the Ecological Office Abuja; Imo State government and Senator Osita Izunaso representing Orlu Zone, until Ugochinyere came”, he submitted.
Mr. Nelson Ejike Opara said the state government should assist Ugochinyere to ensure the situation is arrested completely.
He also called on the state government to assist those displaced by the erosion”.
