– Commend Current UDA Executive’s Purposeful Leadership
“it is unfortunate and ridiculous that the traditional ruler of Amakohia autonomous community, in Owerri North LGA, HRH, Eze Boniface Chidindu and the President General of the community, Chief Dr Tony Agumadu threw caution to the wind and condescended to the abysmal level of concocting falsehood and denying knowledge of the proposed registration of Uratta Development Union, despite the several letters they received from the leadership and acknowledged before and after the meeting of the General Assembly where the decision to register the union was taken.
We are aware that the current leadership of Uratta Development Union notified all traditional rulers in writing and they acknowledged receipt of the letters, aside from the meetings that were held to enable communities air their views about the issues raised .
Therefore, if any community for whatever reason failed to attend the meetings where decisions were taken, does it have the right to say that they were neither informed nor their consent sought. The answer is “No”.
Some leaders of thought in Uratta who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated this while reacting to a publication in the Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper edition of Thursday, October, 3, 2024, captioned, “
They expressed dismay that despite the fact that notice of the meeting of the General Assembly which according to the constitution of the Association is the highest decision making organ, was given on June, 15, 2024, while the meeting was scheduled to hold on 16th July, making it one month notice as stipulated in the constitution. “When it became necessary to postpone the meeting because of unforeseen circumstances, it was shifted to 20th July, when the meeting eventually held. On the 1st of August the decisions taken at the meeting, including, the need to change the name of Uratta Development Association to Uratta Development Union or Uratta Union depending on the one the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) will choose, were circulated to all the communities through their traditional rulers and was also published on the union’s WhatsApp platform where all the branches of the Association including those in the Diaspora belong and have access to.
Besides, after publishing and communicating the outcome of the meeting to the traditional rulers and the component communities, a meeting of the expanded exco, including the Presidents General, was held on 5th August, where those present were briefed about the decisions taken at the meeting of the General Assembly. It should also be noted that the decision to register the UDU was also discussed. Yet, the traditional ruler of Amakohia, Eze Chidindu, his President General and those who are allegedly sponsoring and using them to fan the embers of disunity, rancor and acrimony for selfish reasons and pecuniary benefits did not protest nor register their grievances”.
They commended the current leadership of UDA for running an open, transparent and inclusive administration that will carry the communities along in all ramifications, as against what was obtainable in the past.
“We commend the current executive of UDA for the noble idea of requesting the communities to submit names of their illustrious, trusted and reliable sons, daughters and wives that will be part of the youth, women and “Ngboto” groups. This, will to a very large extent give the component communities more stake, voice and visibility in the Union. On the other hand, Uratta Development Union makes the group more of a socio cultural organization that is while Uratta Development Association sounds more like a social club, hence we endorse and support the registration”.
