-Holds  Zonal Convention  In Ebonyi State, Elects New Exco

NANS Southeast Zone F has  unanimously applauded the first female Vice-Chancellor of FUTO Prof. Nnenna Oti who hail from Ebonyi State, for her leadership dexterity in taking FUTO to greater height with academic excellence and students welfare in focus.

The student body stated this during its National Convention held in Ebonyi State over the weekend.

The group  assuring Oti’s administration of their absolute support in all , urging the Federal government to give more leadership opportunities to females in the Southeast region. 

The communique  with its caption,”BEING THE TEXT OF A COMMUNIQUÉ OF JUST CONCLUDED SOUTHEAST NANS ZONE F, CONVENTION THAT WAS HELD AT EBONYI STATE UNIVERSITY reads,”The arrival of the Senators and the Stakeholders took place on 3rd October 2024 and subsequently the stakeholder’s meeting was convened on the 4th of October on the instant of the chairman convention planning committee. Pending critical zonal issues were resolved before the convention proper. 

“1. After the Opening Procession, Comr. Onyia Ibeabuchi Moses anchored the programme by

commencing with the Introduction of NANS ZONE F critical stakeholders present in the meeting and Senators of various institutions in the Southeast. 

“2. The guest of the Zone His Excellency Comr. Asefon Sunday Dayo the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement appreciated the southeast comrades for their support and dedication to students unionism and most importantly to the commander in chief of the Arm Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He urged the stakeholders of to remain resolute in their resolve to be patriotic citizens of Nigeria while assuring them of a greater Nation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. 

3. Comr. Asefon Sunday Dayo used the opportunity to thank the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for the great disposition of hospitality the comrades witnessed in Ebonyi State and guaranteed security for the success of the southeast NANS Zone F convention. 

“4. The convention proceeded Immediately, the senators nominated the convention Chairman Comr. Oko Ewa Chukwumaijem in accordance to the NANS constitution which was unanimously unopposed, who Leta took charge of the convention processes.

“5. The Senators deliberated on the decline in Southeast participation on Nelfund student loans and urged the university managements to fund the awareness campaign in their respective Universities. As the effects of the students’ LOAN is part of the welfare package which was signed by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. 

“6. The Senators raised alarm on how the institutions Management across the Southeast region is mismanaging the TETFUND resources allocated to various University, Polytechnic, and College of Education by TETFUND and instantly constituted the Southeast NANS TETFUND monitoring team in collaboration with EFCC to investigate notable Institutions across the Zone and submit report in the next Senate session for deliberations. 

7. The Senators appreciated His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for giving one million Naira each to over one hundred and seventy-one (171) students of Ebonyi state, to enable them venture into small and medium scale businesses as part of his efforts in ending hardship among Ebonyi state youths and subsequently offered international scholarship to over fifty (50) students of the state.

8. NANS Southeast Zone F unanimously applauded the first female Vice-Chancellor of FUTO Prof. Nnenna Oti who hail from Ebonyi State, for her leadership dexterity in taking FUTO to greater height with academic excellence and students welfare in focus, while assuring her administration absolute support in all facets, as we urge the Federal government to give more leadership opportunities to females in the Southeast region. 

9. The Insecurity in the southeast region was deliberated upon on the senate floor, where students are being kidnapped and sexually abused. The senators call on the state government to provide effective security across our campuses, and its environment. It’s a role of a responsible government while appealing to the various states commissioners of police to include students leaders in the security network (Informants). 

10. The senators urged University managements to employ qualified former students leaders across the Zone during recruitments. As they will always play a pivotal role for in the students’ community. 

11. Finally, the convention proceeded, and the winners were announced in the following order”.
