– Says, APC Has Impoverished Citizens, Enthroned Insecurity
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Imo State chapter, has accused the Hope Uzodinma-led All Progressive Congress (APC) administration of unleashing hunger, lack and deprivation on Imolites through its draconian anti-people policies that have impoverished the people instead of s the desired dividends of democracy they expected.
In a press release dated October, 1, 2024, the PDP, while berating the Uzodinma administration, which it described as a colossal failure, urged Imo people not to relent in fighting for their rights not minding the harassment, intimidation and threat to life by state and non state controlled actors.
The release signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku reads, “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State calls on citizens of the State not to relent in holding the APC government of the day in the State accountable and in fighting for their rights amid the government’s many draconian measures to hold the citizens in subjugation.
The party notes with dismay that the Hope Uzodimma-led APC government in the State has eroded and derailed the advancements made by the PDP to ensure that the people enjoy true independence by deepening democracy and its dividends.
It is true that since the inception of the Uzodimma administration in the most bizarre of circumstances, Imo people have lived in fear and deprivation. The government continues to watch with arms akimbo as bandits, ritual killers, and kidnappers run riot in the State, killing innocent citizens and taking territorial control of some parts of the State.
The government has succeeded in impoverishing Imo people with anti-people policies and sheer inaction. For five years, the government cannot boast of creating any meaningful employment for the teeming youth population while Imo civil servants have been denied promotion benefits even as the government has defiantly failed to implement the old N30,000 minimum wage, not to talk of paying the newly agreed N70,000.
Sadly, roads in Imo state, are the worst in the entire Southern Nigeria, signposting a decay in the State’s infrastructure and failure of the government to do the basics in governance.
Aside these numerous sins, the government has continued to flagrantly abuse the rule of law. If it is not witch-hunting and hounding members of the opposition and other innocent citizens, it is denying the people their inalienable rights to elect their representatives, thus further destabilizing the State.
The recent Imo state local government polls, where election did not actually take place but winners were announced, is a lucid example of the Imo government’s conscious efforts to deny the people their rights and true independence. Today, Imo people are sad and not celebrating. There cannot be an independence celebration when those holding positions of public trust in the State continue to oppress the people and show a high level of moral depravity.
However, despite these obvious setbacks, Imo PDP urges citizens of the State not to relent in fighting for their freedom from the oppressive grips of the APC government as doing otherwise will elongate the reign of these evil men in government.
The PDP in Imo State remains committed to the ideals that promote democracy and the independence of the people and will continue to be on the side of the masses, fighting for their emancipation until victory is achieved”.
