–         Stakeholders Resist Move

There is palpable tension in Labour Party following silent agitation by some stakeholders over what they perceive as a calculated attempt by some of former Governor Rochas Okorocha’s loyalists to hijack the party, ahead of 2027.

Some party Chieftains who spoke to Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper in absolute confidence, expressed surprise that shortly after the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, the owners of Labour Party dissolved the Barr Julius Abure-led national executive of the party, one of former Governor Rochas Okorocha’s hench men in the leadership of Labour Party, quickly recruited some of his colleagues in Okorocha’s political family, most of who also served as Commissioners and Special Advisers in his cabinet and appointed them as member of the new executive of Labour Party.

This, as gathered, has not gone down well with some members of the party who see it as a booby trap and political permutation aimed at feathering some peoples’ nests. Hence, it has continued to elicit controversy and uncomplimentary remarks.

A source who commented on the unfolding development, said, “it is already being speculated that their game plan is to use their influx into Labour Party to prepare ground for Uche Nwosu’s emergences as Labour Party’s governorship candidate in 2027. But as far as we are concerned, their plan is dead on arrival. It will never fly because, it will destroy the party’s integrity and make it an extension of the APC.

That is why we must resist the move at all cost, no matter who ox is gored.

As this is raging, a school of thought also believes that the entrance of Chief Emeka Ihedioha and his numerous supporters into Labour Party has become a threat to the political ambition of Senator Athan Achonu, the party’s governorship candidate in the last election.

They also believe that the hustle for the Labour Party governorship ticket in 2027, will be a battle of the titans, considering the towering political image and overwhelming ambition of the two heavy weight politicians.
