The people of Umudim, Ishiala, Umunne Ezeke Okporo , in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State have cried out to the government for rescue from 8 years of total blackout which has rendered socio-economic activities in the area comatose and also made life unbearable for the residents who now live like those in the pre-colonial days, amidst unprecedented hardship without any sign of modernity.
Some of the residents who, refused to identify themselves to avoid being harassed and intimidated by the member, representing Orlu, Orsu and Oru East federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, High Chief Canice Moore Nwachukwu, (Omeogo), said they have done all they can to draw the attention of the federal lawmaker to their plight including letters to formally notify him, yet, there was no response, as none of the letters was even acknowledged.
“None of the letters we wrote to him about the issue was either acknowledge or responded to. The affected communities has become a nightmare because of the absence of electricity.
The problem has become more complex with the increase in the price of fuel because we have been using generators for virtually all business activities. Now, how many litres of fuel can the rural dwellers afford at the current price per litre”.
They regretted that, though they have had the opportunity to produce federal lawmakers and a state legislator, including Omeogo and Pascal Okolie, yet they have absolutely nothing to show for their long stay in government on their behalf.
They called on the current federal lawmaker, Omeogo to buy a transformer, which according to them, is the major problem, so that they can be like the residents of other neighbouring communities, where their sons and daughters are using electricity to do their business, in addition to other social benefits.
Effort to reach Hon Canice Moore Nwachukwu for comment proved abortive, as his phone was switched off as at press time.
