– Says: He Governs Imo From Abuja
– Must Account For Abandoned Balloon Technology
Governor Hope Uzodinma’s constant and worrisome absence from the state, despite pressing issues that need his presence, including the recent flood incident that almost submerged most areas of Works Layout, Amakohia Uratta, Okigwe Road, Chukwuma Nwoha, among others has attracted the attention of a cross section of Imo people, including the Peoples Democratic Party that has tagged the State Chief Executive, an absence Governor, who symbolically pursues rat ablaze”.
The PDP, in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, said, “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State is aware of the recent flooding in Owerri and many other parts of the State which has exposed the dept of infrastructural and ecological decay in the State and Gov. Hope Uzodimma’s cruel and insincere approach to governance”.
The party further stated that despite purportedly executing some projects with the sum of over #5.1 billion naira, flooding and erosion menace in the state has become worse than it was before the inconsequential remedial action, adding that the orchestrated balloon technology at Works Layout/Amakohia axis never saw the light of day as it has been abandoned for over 24 months, leaving the area overrun by flood. This situation is worsened by the plethora of dilapidated roads scattered all over the city and State.
We recall that in a rather public celebration of mediocrity and waste of taxpayers’ money, Uzodimma invited then-President Muhammadu Buhari to inaugurate such failed projects at Chukwuma Nwoha and Works Layout/Amakohia, et al.
As a party, we consider it the highest degree of irresponsibility that while the residents of Owerri and its environs are yearning for the government’s response to the recent flooding and gully erosion that have cut off strategic roads in the capital, especially the Orji-Amakohia Flyover road, the Governor remains resident in Abuja and have only been in Imo for barely seven (7) days in the last three months (90 days).
We demand that Uzodimma returns to Imo immediately and account for the humongous sums spent on failed balloon technology, which he invited President Buhari to inaugurate.
Also, we are aware that the Federal Government has in the last 48 hours, approved N108bn for the 36 states of the federation to deal with flooding and ecological issues. From this sum, N3 billion is due to Imo State. We, therefore, demand transparency from the Uzodimma administration on the usage of the sum. With every sense of urgency and necessity, it must be properly channeled towards addressing the need for which it has been provided.
Ndi Imo would not want the money to go down the drain or find its way into the pockets of individuals as has allegedly been the case with such previous intervention funds received by the State in Uzodimma’s regime”.
