The Imo State House of Assembly (IMHA), yesterday moved a motion aimed at commending the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) for conducting peaceful, free, fair and credible local government election in the state.
The Chief Sponsor of the Motion is the Deputy Speaker, Rt.Hon Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu while the co-sponsors are the Majority Leader, Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi, Hon Chigozie Nwaneri, Hon Sam Ikechukwu Osuji, Hon Ebonine Ozioma Worship, Hon Ebile James Ubah and Hone Innocent Ikpamezie.
They attributed the successful and peaceful conduct of the election to the Governor’s effort in nipping insecurity and other vices in the bud.
The text of the Motion reads, “whereas the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission conducted the Imo State Local Government Elections on Saturday, the 21st of September, 2024 for the election of 27 Chairmen of Councils and 305 Councillors respectively;
“Aware that it was the abatement of banditry and insecurity in the State by the concerted efforts of the Governor of Imo State, Dist Sen. Hope Uzodimma that now made the State conducive for the Local Government elections to be held;
“Noting that the elections were free and fair and went on smoothly without security issues in the 27 LGA’s of Imo State and the winners were declared accordingly by ISIEC thereby paving way for putting an end to the era of Solads and Interim Management Committees in the Imo Local Government System Administration;
“Be it resolved by this Hon. House to Congratulate the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission for the successful conduct of the Local Government Elections in Imo State”.
