The Convener of Global Policy and Development Initiative Comrade Promise, popularly known as Alhaji Mustapha, has called on the Imo State government to change the name of Imo State University, IMSU, Owerri, to Chyna Iwuanyanwu University, in honour of late Chief Chyna Iwuanyanwu, a nationalist, politician, and statesman who contributed so much to the advancement of education, social awareness and moral rectitude.
Alhaji Mustapha, who stated this while addressing newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, said, “Iwuanyanwu as a nationalist , a politician and a statesman who believed that leadership is the ability to transform vision into reality through educational awareness and morality which are essential for societal growth upheld socialist principles but opposed external political and economic sabotage. He promoted democratic stability in the region, aside his significant role in national politics, Late Chyna Iwuanyanwu was the purest definition of a leader per excellence, a role model, a modest realist full of empathy and kindness, a man whose words were strength for his people and hope for the next Generation.
He further stated that many private and government properties and institutions have been renamed after great sons and daughters of Imo State, who were not only men of humble repute but also contributed positively in reshaping the future, Daniel Amobi Amadi Anyiam to Dan Anyiam Stadium, Alvan Ikoku To Alvan Ikoku Fed University Owerri,, K.O Mbadiwe, Ndubuisi Kanu and many others, Sir Chyna Iwuanyanwu’s scholarship program even to the destitute contributed immensely to the literacy rate in the State, he was a philanthropist of no mean repute and a charismatic leader, his sterling achievements cut across different fields of human endeavour and it’s unfortunate that 6 years after, the State is yet to recognize Chaco, fearless, a man who detest corruption, oppression and Intimidation.
Renaming IMO STATE UNIVERSITY OWERRI to CHYNA IWUANYANWU UNIVERSITY OWERRI is not only the right thing to do but an act that will rekindle, resuscitate and rejuvenate people of goodwill to continue reinvesting in Educational Development Political stability and Social warfare in the interest of the State and the nation in general”.
