Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information and prominent South South leader has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to, as a matter of urgency, arrest and prosecute Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Clark, in a letter addressed to the IGP which was read during a press briefing at his Asokoro, Abuja residence, said, action should be taken against Wike for his inflammable statements and threats directed at governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Wike had, during a speech at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt on Saturday, warned the PDP governors to refrain from interfering in the party’s affairs in Rivers State.
“Let me assure you, as long as we are alive, no one will take the PDP structure from us. I’ve heard some governors say they will seize control of the structure and return it to someone else.
“I pity those governors, for I will unleash chaos in their states. When God has granted you peace, and you refuse it—be prepared to face the consequences,” Wike asserted.
In response, Clark condemned the former Rivers State governor’s remarks as a blatant disrespect to President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him. He characterized Wike’s comments as treasonous, potentially inciting violence across the nation.
The elder statesman pointed out that others, including African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and #EndBadGovernance protesters, had been arrested for similar offenses.
He emphasized that the IGP must take the same action against Wike and compel him to retract his statements”.
