-Result Declared Inconclusive
Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri is currently swimming in its share of protest that is capable of shutting down the institution activities any moment because of heavy interest on who becomes the next substantive Rector of the institution.
Recall that the seven (7) man selection board conducted interview for the aspirants for the institution rector position on Tuesday 6th of August, where 8 aspirants participated.
The polytechnic community were in anticipation of the result of the interview from the Polytechnic Selection Board on Wednesday the 7th of August. While the institution was left in high expectation of who gets the first, second and third positions from the interview panel especially at the discovery that the Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma has interest in one of the female aspirants, the Selection Board declared the result inconclusive due to unsettled interest among the members of the Selection Board.
It was alleged that the current Imo State Governor facilitated the appointment of the Chairman of the Polytechnic Governing Council as a mechanism to actualize the bid to install one Dr. Basilia Igbokwe who has been in the contest. It was also disclosed that the 7 man Polytechnic Rector Selection Board comprised of 2 members of the Polytechnic academic board, 2 members of the Polytechnic Congregation and 3 members of Polytechnic Governing Council who are not relenting in execution of the Governor’s interest.
