– As Group Accuses Govs, Leaders Of Playing To Gallery
Some union leaders, stakeholders and groups across the South East geopolitical zone have explained why the recent nation wide protests that erupted simultaneously in different parts of the country were shunned in the South East by the Igbos who did not participate in it.
A Chieftain of the Labour Party, Chief Dickson Nwachukwu, in an exclusive interview with Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper, said, “most Nigerians especially the South Easterners, know that the refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the Labour Party candidate winner of the 2023 presidential election, was a plot by some Westerners, who, rather than focusing on who would ensure the provision of good governance, denied Peter Obi who has what it takes to turn around the fortunes of the country, his hard earned electoral victory because of their clannish disposition^
“I am a member of the several groups that met behind closed doors to deliberate on whether or not the South East should participate in the protest. But majority of those present at the meetings said there was no need for the South East to participate because, according to them, if those currently clamouring for the protests had put the interest of the nation above personal and clannish considerations and supported the declaration of Peter Obi as winner of the Presidential election, the mess the country is in now, would have been avoided”.
“We are also of the opinion that the South East Governors who are claiming that the protests did not hold in their states because their people hearkened to their pleas, should hide their faces in shame for playing to the gallery”.
He said, if the Governors could persuade the South Easterners not to participate in the protests why have they not succeeded in persuading them to stop observing the Monday sit-at-home in solidarity with Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
They called on the Governors of the South East States to stop dancing naked in the market place by unnecessarily playing to the gallery to appease the pay masters, who incidentally are the major clogs in the wheels of the socio-economic and political development of the South East states and their people.
“We use this opportunity to call on Governors of the South East States to concentrate on how to address the enormous challenges facing their respective states”.
