–      Condemns Fraudulent Moves By Isiguzo, Others To Steal Union Secretariat

-Warns Of Consequences Of Using Judges, Magistrates To Achieve Aim

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council, yesterday raised alarm over what it referred to as the desperate and fraudulent clandestine activities of the National President of the Union, Chris Isiguzo in collaboration with his agents in Imo State to steal the union’s secretariat, that is situate Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.

Imo NUJ, in a release signed by the State Chairman Comrade Precious Nwadike and Secretary, Ori Martins, said, “we are shocked and surprised at the level of desperation exhibited by the group led by Chris Akaraonye, a retired photographer who parades himself as a Journalist and his co-travellers who went to the extent of conscripting another lawyer who may not have been properly briefed about the pendency of the matter in a higher court, to initiate a related matter at a Magistrate Court where they issued an inconsequential recovery letter”.

“We, therefore urge all concerned, including judicial officers of all cadres to beware of the manipulative antics of Isiguzo and his group, who are desperate to appropriate and fraudulently sell the secretariat which is a legacy bequeathed to the union by veterans who held offices and served the union diligently in all aspects without dent”.

“We, as a union, will not fold our hands and watch the debilitating effects of tyranny and oppression envelope the union indefinitely.

The matter that is already pending in an Owerri High Court came up yesterday and was adjourned to July 25,2024.

Recall, that shortly before the end of Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s tenure as Governor of Imo State, he made frantic efforts to destabilize the Imo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, to enable him buy off the union’s secretariat through a proxy but the move was frustrated by members of the union, who vehemently resisted it.

Prior to this, the Okorocha administration, enthroned puppets led by one Chris Akaraonye who worked hand in gloves with the National President, Abia State born Chris Isiguzo, and others to vandalize the secretariat after allegedly collecting #20m up front from the former governor and his proxy, who promised to pay the balance after taking possession of the property. The matter is presently pending in court. The Nwadike led executive is occupying the Imo NUJ secretariat while the stooges are New Government house that was captured by the recent whitepaper report for demolition.
