-Insists On Zoning Arrangement
Onuimo Local Government is charged as discussions heighten on which Clan among the four clans, Okwe, Umuna, Umuduruegbeaguru and Okwelle should occupy the chairmanship seat in the forthcoming Local Government election,fixed September.
The Apex Leader of Okigwe zone who is also a son of Onuimo, Chief John Enyogasi,popularly known as OK 2000 insisted on the zoning formula which was signed into working Document for the local government some years back by all presidents General, Traditional Rulers, Leaders of Thought and stakeholders of the LGA including himself.
In a stakeholders meeting held recently at Okigwe House being the residence of Chief John Enyogasi, OK 2000,Chief Enyogasi, while addressing leaders of the four clans in Onuimo emphasised that any Clan seeking to contest the Chairmanship position should as a matter of importance beg for the blessing of the people of Umuna Clan stressing that following the zoning formula of the local government, it will be right to accord Umuna Clan every necessary consideration.
The Apex Leader,OK 2000 debunked the rumors making the rounds that he had adopted a particular aspirant as his preferred candidate.
He said that no such thing is in his mind to do, as he can cannot destroy a house he has built stressing that Onuimo Local Government is not too calm to security wise and he would not encourage or support anything that will cause more harm to his people.
In his own speech during the meeting, the former Principal Secretary to the state government,Chief Robert Asuzor agreed on the agreement of the four clan in Onuimo but pleaded to Umuna Clan to allow his own Clan which is Umuduruegbeaguru to produce the local government chairman in the forth coming September local government chairmanship election.
Chief Asuzor maintained the need for Onuimo to be united and peaceful in all ramifications in order to achieve something better from the government, and still continue to work towards achieving a lasting peace in the area.
Hon Maxwell Duru in his speech sounded different on the agreement of zoning formula of the Area and he is of the opinion that the contest should be thrown open to all Clan to contest and this was not acceptable to Onuimo Equity Group who is of position that agreement must be maintained in order to achieve a greater goal and peace in Onuimo and Imo State at large.
The group further advised that Onuimo Leaders not allow outsiders who do not know or understand how things are done in the local government to infiltrate and destroy the local government more just because of their personal aggrandizement.
