Owerri Young Patriots (OYP) a group committed to advocating the socio-political interest of Owerri zone, has said, that, it is not a must that the former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim who held sway between 2007 and 2011 must be re-elected in 2027 for another 4-year tenure, as he and his protagonists are advocating.

OYP, in a release signed by Comrade Emeka Clinton Osuji, said, the desperation with which Chief Ikedi Ohakim is pursuing his guber ambition is a minus on his status. Besides, for somebody who claims that his interest is to offer service and not to acquire wealth.

According to the group, “what Ohakim should do is to show-case his programme, track record and also say what he has in stock for Imo people and not going  about creating the impression that the seat is his birth right and that of Okigwe zone simply because he only served a 4-year tenure. “He should also stop creating the impression that if he does not win, heaven will fall”.

“The truth is that, in line with the principles of equity, justice and fairness, it is the turn of Owerri zone to produce the next Governor of Imo State”.

They also called on all leaders of Owerri zone not to anchor their campaign on zoning but on what they will do for Imo people who have been severally pushed to the wall, adding that they will go to any length to mobilize support for any Governorship candidate of Owerri zone extraction who has what it takes to deliver, in line with the expectations of the electorate.
