Some political aspirants and stakeholders across party divide in Imo State, have expressed skepticism over Governor Hope Uzodinma’s promise to conduct Local Government Council election in the state, in view of his several failed promises.
Some of them who spoke to our reporter, said their doubts are hinged on the fact that the Governor, had on several occasions in the past, made such promises that made them spend enormously on preparation, mobilization and campaign that ended in futility at very great cost. Yet, the election has not been conducted till date. What then is the guarantee that the same scenario will not be replicated.
They recalled that “the Governor had at a point, set up an electoral committee that gave credence to his perceived sincerity to conduct the much talked about election, in addition to berating his predecessors for operating with appointed Sole Administrations and Interim Management Committees which are illegal and unconstitutional. But surprisingly, he has toed the same path of infamy for over 4 years”.
“Governor Uzodinma’s failure to match his words with action on several occasions has completely eroded our trust and confidence in him. That is why his promise to conduct Local Government election within 90 days is being taken with a pinch no salt by the political actors and stakeholders”.
An All Progressive Congress (APC) aspirant from Orlu zone who does not want his name mentioned, said, “it will be a miracle if the Governor eventually conducts Local Government election, as promised. I think he is buying time to enable him continue to manage Local government funds, while also keeping his supporters and loyalists hopeful of possible “settlement” with local government election.
He is also using the same ploy to divert the attention of Imo people from the excruciating harsh reality on ground. I have already read the hand writing on the wall. That is why I am not in a hurry to flag off my campaign, like I did in the past. Besides, we had been fooled on several occasional at great cost to our families and businesses that suffered so much.
