-As His Health Allegedly   Deteriorates In Police Custody

The arrest and detention of the former Special Adviser on Special Duties to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has elicited mixed reactions in in different quarters.

While some people, including former political appointees expressed happiness that the former aide and confidant of the Governor, who arrogated a larger than life image to himself, has now been humbled by being detained in police custody, others are of the opinion that, if the Governor could sacrifice Chinasa Nwaneri, despite how close he was to him, then none of them would be spared.

A former aide of the Governor who does not want his name mentioned, was quoted as saying that “Chinasa Nwaneri, no doubt did some hatchet jobs for the Governor which none of them could have summoned courage to do, particularly, the attack on former Governor Rochas Okorocha, his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu and his involvement in the razzmatazz that culminated in Uzodinma’s re-election, which created a very negative image for him in the eyes of people, like Jones Onyereiri, former deputy governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party PDP,  who is also his kinsman.

The former Governor’s aide said, “in as much as I don’t support criminality in any form, my question is, does it mean that Governor Uzodinma, has suddenly realized the alleged atrocious activities of Chinasa Nwaneri, now that he has been re-elected, just like the former Commissioner for Lands, Noble Atulegwu was used to garner votes in Owerri West Local Government Area and subsequently arrested soon after Uzodinma’s re-election for a second tenure.

“I am one of those who should be delighted about Chinasa’s arrest and detention because of what he did to me. But I am also of the opinion that Governor Uzodinma cannot be completely exonerated from most of Chinasa’s actions while in office because he could not have acted exclusively without the consent and approval of his Principal.

Some others who spoke on condition of anonymity opined that having kept Nwaneri in detention for long, the governor should release him, particularly in consideration of his detoriating health status.

“We know that the former Commissioner for Lands, Noble Atulegwu, among others, mobilized funds for Uzodinma’s re-election campaign. One wonders why Uzodinma did not ask how they raised such huge amounts of money they ploughed into his campaign. Honestly, this is an Irony”.
