The Traditional Ruler of Akpulu, in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, His Royal Highness Eze Cletus Umeji, Dim Ogu II of Apulu autonomous community, who was kidnapped by some unidentified gunmen on Tuesday, last week, while on his way for a routine medical check, has regained his freedom.
A family source who spoke to our reporter on the condition of anonymity, said he does not know if ransom was paid to secure the Monarch’s release. “All I confidently say, is that he was released on Wednesday. He is healthy and in very high spirit.
The Monarch was also seen flanked by members of his family in a trending video while celebrating his release from the kidnappers, who are yet to be identified.
Recall, that, the released Monarch, was said to have been trailed by his abductors up to a point where they double crossed him on his way to Nnewi, in Anambra State, pulled out his companion, abandoned the Lexus ES 300 they came with and zoomed off with the Monarch’s Toyota High Lander SUV car. After driving for a while, they reportedly way laid another victim, who they also kidnapped and sped off with his vehicle.
Some concerned Imolites who commented on the sad development, expressed disappointment that this happened barely two months after the former Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH, Eze Samuel Ohiri, was kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen in Owerri.
This incidents, according to them have negated and pulled the rug off arguments by the Imo State government and its officials that insecurity and attendant consequences that have continuously ravaged the state and her people have been nipped in the bud.
They called on the Hope Uzodinma administration to rise up to its cardinal responsibility of ensuring the security of lives and property of Imo citizens, who have been victims of unprecedented security challenges since the inception of this administration.
