-Anambra, Abia Have Overtake Us In Good Governance
– Wants Orlu To Give Way For Other Zones
“Aside the Avutu, Obowo Local Government Area born Chief Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe, Chief Achike Udenwa and the short period that Chief Emeka Ihedioha presided over the affairs of the state, Imo has been very unfortunate in the choice of Governors and this has impacted negatively on the state and her people who are in dire need of quality and purposeful governance”.
The immediate past Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Imo State, Mazi Emenike Mmerenini stated this while explaining why he dumped the party.
According to him, “what should be important to Imo people at this point in time, is how to replicate what is currently happening in Abia and other neighboring states where the emphasis is now comprehensive infrastructural development.
“There is also need to mobilize, educate and enlighten the people, irrespective of party affiliation to elect a seasoned and experienced technocrat, in 2027, who, by virtue of his impeccable track record and zero tolerance for corruption will be sensitive to the needs of the electorate and also be mindful of the fact that he is exercising their mandate on trust and not for personal aggrandizement”.
“This is very necessary because it is only an experienced technocrat that can amend and liberate the state from the disaster caused by all these gate crashers who emerged as Governors without a blue print of action or ample knowledge of what governance entails. Anything short of this will drag the state into deeper mess”.
The former PDP stalwart also called on Orlu people to quit the stage entirely for other zones. “Orlu cannot claim to have a monopoly of the best brains in terms of governance. I am convinced that Owerri and Okigwe zones, also have very capable people who can preside over the affairs of the state successfully and effectively”.
When asked if Okigwe zone has narrowed their choice to any particular person ahead of 2027, he said “the zone has not chosen or endorsed any person at the moment. But for him, what is important is the emergence of an experienced technocrat as Governor, irrespective of where in Okigwe Owerri Zone He or She comes from, adding that the governorship slot should no longer be ceded to political jobbers and gamblers who lack the requisite capacity and ability to address the myriad of problems created by past Governors.
“Other states have moved on but sadly, we have continued to lag behind because we have had the misfortune of electing our worst instead of our best. We will remain in this endless vicious circle except we wake up from slumber and consciously do the needful in 2027”.
