A renowned entrepreneur and lover of education, Sir Chuks Okoronkwo has put smiles on the faces of students and management of Federal University of Technology Owerri, by building a skill acquisition center worth million of naira and handed it over to the management of the institution.
The event which commenced on Tuesday the 21st of May 2024 witnessed the presence of the Vice Chancellor of of FUTO, Nnenna Oti and other top management staff of the university.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the commissioning,the Isiala Mbano born philanthropist and donor of the facility disclosed that the project was achieved through the collaborative efforts of some brightest minds in Imo State under the umbrella of the Imo Economic Development Initiative ably led by Prof Maurice Iwu, the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University of Agriculture Umuajwo, Prof Chiedozie Eze.
Sir Chuks said that the idea of skill acquisition workshop building was sparked during meetings with the institution especially Prof Eze. He disclosed that they saw the need for additional accommodation at the department of entrepreneur studies and that the request aligned with the goals of Imo State Economic Development Initiative and that he felt compelled to support the project.
He disclosed that the initial plan for the project was just to build the structure but after discussion with the Vice Chancellor of FUTO, he now decided to build and furnish the building with state of the art equipment that will produce value and motivate the students so as to learn new skills.
He further stated that his personal resolve to embark on the projects was inspired by the need to realize the desire to contribute towards a more practical and equal society, secondly the possibility to collaborate with the education sector to train and uplift students by giving them a chance at self employment and the desire to make our youths better positioned to compete with their counterparts within the country and across the globe.
Sir Chuks Okoronkwo hinted that some equipment have already been installed at the center and that more will be included as the need arise.
Expressing gratitude towards the Donor’s magnanimity the vice chancellor of FUTO Prof Nnenna Otiti stated that the university community will ever remain grateful to Sir Okoronkwo for deeming it necessary to carry such a huge project for the institution.
She disclosed that Sir Chuks Okoronkwo decision to build such project shows that he has the interest of Nigeria students at heart.
She promised that the institution will always take good care of the centre.She also thanked other people who put their heads together with Sir Okoronkwo to make sure that the project sees the light of the day.
notable personalities that witnessed the occasion are the former INEC Chairman Proff Maurice Iwu,HRH Eze Oliver Ohanwe, Chief Collins Nwachuwu who happens to be the contractor that handled the project and hosts of personalities.
