Sequel to the recent theft at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council located along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, members of the union, after reviewing the incident at the congress held recently, resolved that the immediate past Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, Declan Emelumba is taking side with hoodlums by coming out publicly to solicit their release from detention, even when the culprit, Ifeanyi Nwanguma was caught red handed with the exhibits and was at the verge of being lynched by passersby who detested his criminal acts.
Members of the union who spoke with one voice at the meeting which was presided over by the Secretary, Comrade Ori Martin, said no right thinking person, let alone a top government appointee would condescend to the level of taking side with criminals and at the same time solicit their bail and subsequent release from detention.
Also commenting on the development, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council, Comrade Precious Nwadike, said, “right from inception Emelumba has always shown total disdain for rule of law and this has cast a dent on his professional standing as a journalist.
“Even when the Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma took a decisive step to ensure that the right thing is done, Emelumba has still been doing all he can to subvert the curse of justice. However, one thing is that the CP, as a thorugh bred professional has shown that he is unbiased ad determined to ensure that justice prevails, no matter whose ox is good”.
Meanwhile, the Imo NUJ property matter came up at the Justice Oputa High Court, Owerri yesterday.
Recall, that, some criminal elements had connived to sell the Imo NUJ Secretariat to a former Governor of Imo State who as a ploy to make them hasten up the fraudulent process of acquisition of the property, paid #20million up front and promised to pay the balance when he takes possession. But members of the union vehemently resisted the move. Hence, the matter is in court uptill date.
The fraudsters who deceived the court into giving judgment in their favour even while the matter that borders on the leadership tussle in the NUJ was still subsisting.
